About Lake Conestee Nature Park

Before hitting the trails, it's helpful to learn a little bit about the history and natural features of Lake Conestee Nature Park. Originally the site of a large textile mill, the area was deemed a brownfield and abandoned for decades before being transformed into a nature preserve in 2006.

Today, the park is a haven for wildlife, with water being its defining feature. The vast floodplains and wetlands created by the water support a dense and diverse collection of species. As you explore the park, keep an eye out for beavers, river otters, deer, raccoons, foxes, salamanders, frogs, and snakes. With such a rich diversity of plant and animal life, you'll feel like you're in a world apart from the city.
